My friend Mariana Sampaio is a classically trained Portuguese tile painter. She made these beautiful tiles, while she was visiting Portland, using a technique called majolica.
Originally created in Delft, Neatherlands, the Single Figure tiles were brought by the portuguese sailors to Portugal and developed during the 16th century becoming one of the most traditional portuguese tiles.
