Ombre Sgraffito Peony Planter Collab with Mariana Sampaio (NOW CLOSED)
Mariana and I have been collaborating and planning an international community clay studio in Portugal for over 3 years now. I’ve been dreaming of it for over twenty years now. We made this big beautiful planter last summer for this very fundraiser. You see, every ticket sold, gets us a little close to buying new kilns, pottery wheels, and all the equipment we’ll need to start hosting artists and teaching classes and workshops. So really for the cost of a coffee, you’re helping us do amazing things AND have a shot to win this one of a kind work of art.
About the Raffle
We made this giant planter specifically to raise money for and awareness of Com-Fusion, the ceramics community center we are building in Portugal together. All the money raised will go towards, ceramics equipment & materials, and all the things we’ll need to begin hosting artists for classes, workshops, residencies and retreats. We already have the space for artist residencies secured, and are negotiating space for the community center!

Raffle open to US, Canada, EU and UK only.
Your purchase of a raffle ticket, brings us one step closer to realizing this dream. We thank you for that and appreciate you taking a chance to have these beauties in your home.
How we make them
Nicole throws the planter on the potter’s wheel, using about 9 lbs of clay. When it’s leather hard, Nicole uses underglazes to create the green to blue ombre effect, Mariana then transfers the peony image onto the pot, and then uses a technique called sgrafitto to carve the design. Add on the lusters and firings, this planter took several hours from each artist to complete.
